American Rock Salt awards laptop computer to York salutatorian

American Rock Salt is proud of the company’s successes, which they say are largely due to its outstanding workforce, many of whom are local to the Genesee Valley and graduates of Livingston County high schools.

The company has a program that rewards its employees’ children who earn Valedictorian or Salutatorian rank in their graduating class among Livingston County Schools.

On July 14, York Central School Salutatorian Leann Chen received a laptop computer from company founders Gunther Buerman, Co-CEO and chairman; Joseph Bucci, Co-CEO and vice-chairman of operations and Neil Cohen, Co-CEO and vice chairman of finance and marketing.

Livonia presents Community Volunteer Awards

A special ceremony supplementing the ususal concert at Vitale Park took place last Sunday, July 18. Prior to the performance by the Steve Johnson Band, Livonia Town Supervisor Eric Gott presented Livonia Community Volunteer Awards to Jim and Rita Simpson, Ed and Sally Schubert, and Matthew Kelly.

Organizer Billie Hill, Secretary Karin Foley, and Treasurer Janice Barrett worked tirelessly to provide a noteworthy event with the cooperation of the land owners Beth and Stirlin Harris of Hideaway Farm, Laura and Hank Minor of Paduka Run, and the Seven Nations States and Nations Farm.

Tuskegee Airmen saved his life

A Medina pilot has often said he owes his life to a Tuskegee Airman. Bruce Martin flew B-17s during the war. While returning from a bombing mission of the synthetic oil refinery at Oswiecim, Poland, just over the German border, he realized, like many others in his formation, he was not going to have enough fuel to reach their home base of Foggia, Italy.Related posts:

Die hard airshow fan

There are diehard airshow followers, and then there's Scott Royse. Royse, who will be 93 in August, has been flying his own plane, a Luscombe, to the 1941 Historical Aircraft Group's Greatest Show on Turf airshow since 1992. This year, accompanied by his stepson Richie, 21, also a pilot, Royse said the trip took 15 hours of flying time, which they accomplished over three days.

Wyoming Idol begins July 9

According to organizer Larry Nugent, Livingston County has thus far fielded three contestants -- two from Nunda and one from Avon -- for the seventh annual Wyoming County Idol contest. It will be held the next six consecutive Fridays at Letchworth Pines in Portageville. Contests start at 7 p.m.
